Welcome to Prayer For Israel
This ministry is focused on encouraging intentional, focused prayer for the people of Israel and the Jewish community worldwide. Our basic focus for all directed prayer is as follows:
- We pray every Jewish person will come to saving faith in the Jewish Messiah, Yeshua of Nazareth.
- We pray for the ministries that bring the message of Messiah to the original messengers (the Jewish people)
- We pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6) and for issues concerning the state of Israel and those who belong to her
- We pray for pastors and churches in New Zealand to have a renewed passion for God, a love for the Scriptures and a right understanding of Israel in the overall plan of God.

We believe that there is no better guide as to how to pray than trust in the Holy Spirit. Therefore, as we present stories and prayer requests, we ask that each person call out to God for an understanding of the most appropriate way to pray for a situation. Understanding of the History of Prayer for Israel
In autumn 1981, Murray & Rosemary Dixon undertook a reconnaissance tour of Israel, stepping out in faith with a belief in the reality of God’s provision, protection and principle to “proclaim it in distant coastlines: He who scattered Israel will gather them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.” (Jeremiah 31:10) Through this trip, Murray and Rosemary became convinced they should return to New Zealand and speak of God’s purposes for Israel, and the prayer ministry of Prayer for Israel was birthed.
A borrowed copy of a message on cassette by David Pawson on the “Purpose of Israel and Gentile Responsibility” became a revolutionary starting point for many believers as the set of tapes was copied and posted to over 100 people with a simple note:
“The message on these tapes, by David Pawson, has completely revolutionized our understanding of what God is doing today among the nations with the unique nation of Israel. We pray you are inspired as we have been. Please don’t return them but pass them on that others may understand.”
From these beginnings, the Prayer for Israel ministry began regularly bringing groups to Israel on what would later be called “Living Stones” tours to see the biblical sites, to pray, and to encourage and be encouraged by the Jewish and Arab congregations that were in their infancy. As a result of these tours and their unique experience and perspective on Israel, believers from New Zealand and all over the world became better equipped to pray for Israel.
